Tongue -Tie Release Surgery
We recommend myofunctional therapy as part of your pre and post-tongue-tie surgery experience.
A tongue tie or lip tie, also known as “ankyloglossia” is a serious childhood issue, which can interfere with feeding, speech, and even proper breathing. If this issue goes untreated, it can also cause a number of other problems in adulthood. This issue will not correct itself with time...
Starting myofunctional therapy prior to the frenectomy will prevent you or your child from slipping back into the bad habits that the tongue tie caused. For example, it encourages nose breathing rather than mouth breathing. Hence, you may experience some relief from tongue tie symptoms even before your surgery. Post-surgical myofunctional therapy is basically physical therapy for your mouth.
Jaw Surgery Rehabilitation
We recommend myofunctional therapy as part of your pre and post-tongue-Jaw Surgery Rehabilitation or Oral Maxillofacial Orthognathic Surgery.
Orofacial Surgery focuses on the structure and alignment of the jaw and tongue area while Myofunctional Therapy focuses on the communication between the orofacial muscles of the jaw and tongue, nervous system, and body. According to research, The use of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy pre/post jaw surgery reduces the incidences of relapse.
Sleep Well, Live Well Program
Any upper airway (UA) obstruction may induce changes in neuromuscular function in order to ensure the passage of air. The most common consequence of UA obstruction is mouth breathing, a functional adaptation that may affect craniofacial growth and development.
Myofunctional therapy and Respiratory Muscle Strength Training decreases apnea-hypopnea index by approximately 50% in adults and 62% in children. Lowest oxygen saturation, snoring, and sleepiness outcomes improve in adults. Myofunctional therapy could serve as an adjunct to other obstructive sleep apnea treatments
Our community is unnecessarily sick and suffering as a result of living an ever-increasing stressful lifestyle, inappropriate eating, swallowing, and oral habits, poor communication skills as well as being misinformed about how to breathe and how necessary the appropriate tongue posture is to achieve true health and wellness.
We are passionate about inspiring and empowering families and individuals of our community that their body CAN thrive and express its full health potential naturally through Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and our Life After Stroke Program.
